Look: Wine Tour Neutrals

I recently took a wine tour of Napa Valley in California, and the scenery was nothing short of dreamy. Napa averages about 90 degrees Fahrenheit in August, so I knew I had to wear light but flattering material that adhered to my personal style. Below are details of my outfit, as well as tips on finding affordable pieces via secondhand apps.

When it comes to sustainable fashion, consumers have two options:

  • Shopping secondhand

  • Shopping from a sustainable brand

Shopping secondhand primarily includes re-sell apps such as Depop, The RealReal, or consignment/thrift stores. The look I had in mind (something chic, clean, day-time appropriate that went with the theme of the scenery) had a very Reformation vibe. One of the simplest methods of finding a chic outfit that compliments the scenery is to take inspiration from the setting itself. I knew I’d be in an area with plentiful sunshine with tones of brown, purple, and green, thus making it easier to narrow down an outfit color that’d complement the scenery.

I began by going on the Reformation website and finding dresses that I knew would be flattering for my body type — including the Nikita, Spaulding, and the Carolena dresses. To avoid the steep $250 price tag, I opted to search for similar designs on The RealReal and Depop.

On The RealReal, I’d usually search for the term “Reformation dresses” and would sort by “Newest First” at 10 am and 6 pm daily (you’d be surprised, pieces sell out pretty quickly!). Despite consistently checking The RealReal, prices for secondhand Reformation dresses on the app were still quite steep and $150 plus shipping.

On Depop, I’d usually search by the exact name of the dresses since private sellers usually did an effective job at leaving details of a product in the description. Ultimately, I was unsuccessful in finding a dress in my size on Depop, despite seeing countless promising pieces.

Fortunately, about a week before my trip, Reformation ended up having a sale which was when I snagged this outfit for about $100 (quite economical considering it’s a 3-piece!). I matched it with a snake-print bag that I’ve had for years and a pair of simple black slides.

I think this look overall came together well and fit the theme of the destination!
